Recently, I had the pleasure of taking some great folks from Wyoming fishing. They flew into south Florida to enjoy the beauty and take a trip to the Bahamas. Along the way, they scheduled a trip with me in the tarpon capital of the world, Boca Grande Pass. We began our day before sunrise to capture the sunrise bite I enjoyed daily for a week. I knew exactly where the fish would pop up and almost within the minute of my prediction, there they were.
We managed to hook and land two doubles of world-class sized tarpon. In over 1,600 charters I’ve never seen or heard of anyone landing two tarpon simultaneously and getting in the water to photograph. The odds of pulling this off are in single digits, but we did it.
A while later after catching more tarpon and the needed tide change, we changed gears and headed to my goliath grouper fishing grounds. That day, we caught and tagged 6 goliaths weighing up to 500lbs.
I specialize in goliath grouper fishing and have been part of a three year study, conducting dna, food and finray sampling. I’ve tagged over 300 goliaths and have never caught the same fish.
