Bimini Shark Lab says: It’s been a windy few days at the lab! Less than ideal weather has kept the whole Sharklab crew on land for a bit, but that hasn’t stopped us from preparing for our annual PIT program! We will be catching, tagging, and releasing the whole juvenile lemon shark population in two different nurseries in Bimini. Here is a drone shot of our previous Lab Manager, Andrew, checking one of our PIT nets from last summer’s program. During PIT, we check the net every 15 minutes for 12 hours, haul the net, and then set it again the next evening over 12 nights, with a short break between the two nurseries. We caught 218 babies last year. We’re taking guesses on how many baby lemons we’ll catch this year!
