Will says: Ideally one should be flexible and able to shoot if the conditions are right for it. This time I got it right and managed a night on the river in absolutely magical conditions. Before breakfast I got a few nibbles on the large paddletail I was throwing. Noting the teethmarks it was obviously small cob so I tied a smaller lure on my light stick, and of course on the second cast I get nailed by a 20kg cob! After a hair raising eternity (15 minutes in fact ;)) I had this giant slab next to the boat, and I knew the trip was made. I had to work quick to get a photo or two and revive the fish. The hook on the lure snapped with ease as I tried to dislodge it – mere seconds of continued pressure and the fish could have been one of those that got away! But he stuck and I got the evidence. Due to the long fight on light tackle, the revival was lengthy but we made it through and I was rewarded soon afterwards by a couple of sizable mullet for the pan who pretty much destroyed my cast net!
The wind came up quite a bit stronger than predicted but packing up and heading home somehow didn’t feel like a bummer, even if I left a bit earlier than planned.

I love that old GX Cruiser. Drove from Nairobi to CT and back in one in 2007. I didn’t know mullet were good eating?

@drpatrickavery mullet make real good eating, some consider them a delicacy!
