Hey @animalbaby, The material is pre-anodized and the black on the weld is the anodize coating which gets pushed around during the weld process. This coating protects the aluminum from saltwater corrosion but doesn’t conduct electricity and melts at twice the temps as the base aluminum.

When welding pre-anodized aluminum, how do you protect the finished weldment from corrrosion? Is there a way @martinmarinedesign ?

@martinmarinedesign do you run 4043 rod on the part? Is that the reason for the black on the weld after anodizing the part?

Hey @mr.danielstone, I hand paint each weld to protect the areas where the anodize coating is pushed out.
