Everything Boston Whaler says: What are you smirking about???
–
In 1976 Whaler released the new hull design of the 16’7″ hull with the smirked bow design. To note this design change and to give more separation in the model line up from the just released 15′ hull, Whaler called these 17’s. All of the previous non-smirked 16’7″ hull were called 16’s.

What’s a smirk? Well if you look the two outer sponson keel chines come up from the water line and turn to meet under the bow. On the 16′ non smirked hulls those sponson keel/chines come right up and die into the rub rail. –
This shot of Jeff’s Montauk show off those smirk lines soooo well. –
