Snook, Redfish and Trout Fishing in Tampa with Tyler St. Philip

Tyler St. Philip is an avid Tampa fisherman who likes to get up close an personal while fishing, enjoying the sport via kayak or wade fishing.

Here is what he says on fishing his beloved Tampa Bay area:

I usually make the videos after every week of fishing so Id say about 2-4 trips. Some of the artificals I like using are the Mirr-O-Lure C Eyes, Z-man Scented ShrimpZ, and PaddlerZ.

I like to wade fish but it has its disadvantages such as the height for sight casting, moving from spot to spot, and of course the Sharks and sting rays, but I’ve learned that there’s many advantages too. One of them being able to really stalk the fish.

Tyler on Snook & Redfish

I’ve been able to get feet from 40+ inch snook and reds and them not even know I’m there. I’ve hooked up to multiple fish within feet of me. It’s also so much easier to work the mangroves when you’re level to them. I’ll stand about 10 feet away from the mangroves and I’ll pitch my bait in the small little openings and the only way to get the big snook in Tampa is if you really get your bait in their mangrove holes. Here is a video of me working them to really explain it!

Funny thing is, I’ll be pulling out fish after fish from the mangroves while people fishing from their boats are spending more time trying to keep their boats out of the mangroves than fishing.
